Availability: Seasonal contracts until on or before December 8th or December 31st, hourly, full-time with an ability to work mornings, afternoons, over night shifts and occasional weekends. Shift times are generally:

Morning shift: 7am-3:30pm
Afternoon Shift: 3:30pm-midnight ($1.00/hr afternoon premium)
Overnight Shift: 11pm-7:30am ($2.00/hr overnight premium)

Your core RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Assist in producing high quality Lush products
•Fill, pour and press product accurately
•Pack product and correctly label packages
•Keep up with production demands and productivity targets
•Ability to be apart of a fluid and flexible production team
•Encourage a positive and respectful workplace
•Practice safe work and identify unsafe situations to the appropriate individuals
•Adhere to room policies and best practices for quality, cleanliness and health and safety
•Perform general housekeeping and equipment cleaning duties
•Represent the ethics and culture of the LUSH brand

You bring the following QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
•Confident with basic mathematics
•Able to do physical work for 8 hour shifts, on your feet and lift 50 pounds
•Capable of physical activities such as standing for long durations, bending down, pulling and pushing
•Maintain a positive attitude and engaged in your work
•Reliable, consistent attendance, punctual and dependable
•Fluent in English: reading, writing and speaking

Preferred:
•Mechanical, equipment and process knowledge
•Manufacturing or Distribution experience in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals or food
industries
•Accustomed to working in a highly seasonal, high pressure environment
•Flexible to work shift work, weekends and occasional overtime

Literacy Catalyst- Part time- Frontier College
Title of Position: Literacy Catalyst
Term: 49 Weeks, 21 Hours Per Week
Location: Markham and Ellesmere
Start date: September 2017

Founded in 1899, Frontier College is a national, non-profit literacy organization that partners with a variety of community-based organizations to deliver volunteer-run programs across Canada. We work with children, teens, adults and families to improve their literacy skills and increase their opportunities.

In Toronto we offer a wide range of programs that support adults (Literacy and Basic Skills, Independent Studies, Virtual Learning Portal, Computer Skills and pre-apprentice upgrading) as well as programs for children and youth (Homework Clubs, Parent Workshops, Community Capacity Building, Reading Programs and book donations). Frontier College is able to provide this position through the Investing in Neighbourhoods initiative of Toronto Employment and Social Services.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join the team at our Markham and Ellesmere location. You will gain valuable skills working with a Literacy Basic Skills program that provides skills development for adults who are 19 years of age and older.


Overall Accountability
The Literacy Catalyst will report to the Community Coordinator responsible for the Scarborough Literacy and Basic Skills program and will work directly with program staff, community partners and tutors. Members of the Toronto staff team will provide additional training, mentorship, and oversight to the Literacy Catalyst.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Visit potential and existing partner sites to promote literacy and its connection to the services delivered by the Scarborough LBS program
• Educate the community on children, youth and adult programming offered at Frontier College on a local and national scale
• Conduct needs assessments; develop and deliver community based youth and adult literacy workshops
• Plan and participate in community outreach to build and maintain networks for volunteer and learner engagement
• Contribute to the research and development of suitable tools and resources for youth and adult literacy skills development
• Support tutoring instruction in small group and one-to-one pairs when needed
• Assist with research and evaluations of learner impact and skills development
• Contribute to stakeholder relationship management through phone calls, interviews and focus groups
• Support and/or participate in community tables including Neighbourhood Improvement initiatives, employment and youth focused
• Complete administrative tasks as needed including the creation of reports, file management, and data entry

Skills and Attributes
• Knowledge of literacy and community development in an adult, child- or youth-centered setting
• Comfortable speaking to groups of varying sizes and with diverse populations
• Energetic, resourceful and tolerant of ambiguity
• Able to think critically, solve problems and manage details
• Work well independently and as part of a team
• Skills in non-formal education, outreach, networking and facilitation
• Excellent spoken and written communication
• Computer skills (MS Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point and Internet)
• Organized, able to manage time and multiple tasks
• Positive learning attitude
• Ability to develop and implement new program ideas

Additional Assets
• Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
• Familiar with OALCF and LBS program framework
• Understanding of the socio-economic factors that impact literacy

Compensation: Hourly wage plus 4% vacation pay.
