Cooking & Wellness for Independence

Summer Program Youth Leader

The Pape Adolescent Resource Centre (PARC) is a preparation for independence program serving youth in care and former youth in care of the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, the Catholic Children’s Aid Society, and Jewish Family and Child. Our mandate is to assist youth 15-29 years of age as they transition from the child welfare system to adulthood.

 

Contract:  July 9th to August 17th, 2018 (35hrs/week)

Position:  Summer Program Youth Leader (2 vacancies)

Salary:  $17.00/hr

 

 

Position Summary:  Under the direction of PARC staff, the Summer Program Youth Leader will work to implement a summer cooking & wellness program for youth in care 15-26 years of age.  

 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the organization and implementation of nutrition and wellness programming for 30+ youth in care.
  • Maintain files, intake forms, emergency contacts, attendance records and related participant information as required.
  • Assist with the intake of youth participants prior to each of the program sessions.
  • Liaise with child welfare caseworkers and foster parents on the progress of youth participants.
  • Assist with the implementation of workshops on cooking/nutrition and wellness topics to program participants in a variety of settings
  • Provide day-to-day supervision to program participants while implementing behaviour management strategies as required.
  • Prepare weekly summary reports on the participants of the summer program.
  • Report to the designated PARC staff.
  • Work in a safe manner in accordance with CAST health and safety policies and procedures and all relevant legislation.

 

 

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 at the start of employment.
  • Applicants must have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
  • Applicants must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with official refugee status.
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations;
  • Applicants must have experience with the child welfare system, either  professionally or personally

 

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to motivate and direct youth in a group setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to model appropriate behaviour for other youth.
  • Experience in facilitating, planning, and implementing activities for youth 15-26 years of age.
  • Excellent English communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Works well within a team setting
  • Demonstrated ability to ask for and receive support, when necessary.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills and experience dealing with crisis situations.
  • Developed time management and report writing skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working with at-risk youth.

 

 

Assets:

  • Lived experience in the child welfare system
